There are many people who visit Kamakura. Kamakura (鎌倉市) is a historical city with many temples, is a city located in Kanagawa about 50 kilometres south-west of Tokyo. It used to be also called Renpu (鎌府?) the short for Kamakura Bakufu (鎌倉幕府, or Kamakura Shogunate). Please see Wikipedia “Kamakura” or “Kamakura Shogunate” for a good information. The first 3 or 4 lines would be enough...
Maybe you can see how big (and how crowded!) the Great Budda is with this picture. The statue 11 meters high or about 13 meters from the ground, weigh 121 tons, built in the 13th century. There is a door at the back and you can get in.
Behind the statue there is a small tea house where you can try “warabimochi”, a jelly-like sweet made from starch. The green powder is tea powder (it’s a bit bitter) and the brown, soy bean powder (more popular).
If you have a chance to visit Kamakura, don’t miss this lovely train, Enoden. It connects the station of Kamakura with Fujisawa and is famous for its variety of the sights. It goes through the town, by the sea, you can see Mt. Fuji if you’re lucky…, one part is a tram and it runs on the road withcars, it goes right beside houses… It’s so fun!
Have a nice time! ^_^
